RFLAN 39 - Report
April was Awesome!
At RFLAN 39, over 450 gamers competed for a prize pool in excess of $5000, including $1500 cold hard cash. Our major sponsors Thermaltake, Anyware and Austin Computers were complimented by special guests Team Immunity, ozFortress and Gamers United, flying in just for our event! At RFLAN 38, we gave away some special passes to Madman Entertainment's The Raid; this was followed up at RFLAN 39 with preview screening passes to Iron Sky, a fan-financed movie about Nazis on the dark side of the moon!
The Team Flag competition made a comeback, with a spectacular backlit flag proudly flown by the Dream Team and earning them free passage to RFLAN 40. The Best Hat competition was to follow, with a group of hat-wearing gamers erratically dancing around to prove their adhoc hats were structurally sound, before walking away with some goodies from Modariffic and Redflag. Team Immunity flew in from the Eastern States to battle our gamers in 1v1 matchups, and gave away some cool Steelseries and Intel products.
Mooseable from Perth Barcraft was on hand to cast the Starcraft II tournaments, shown live on Twitch.TV for the world to see. The guys from ozFortress and Gamers United showed off some awesome Valve gear including posters and coffee mugs, before giving them away during the Team Fortress 2 tournaments. DotA 2 was even given a trial competition and was successfully run across our lightning-fast Amnet broadband connection to the real world.
A Saturday evening shower could not dampen the battles underway in the stadium, but the deliveries of pizza, Chilliz rice bowls and hot pies were quickly snapped up, with the canteen running dry of most food around midnight, much earlier than planned.

This is what everyone is here for! We had a great range of competitions that ran over the weekend each receiving prizes donated by our sponsors.

In Closing
Massive thanks to the Red Flag staff, who worked extra this event to bring some great prizes and tournaments your way. The volunteer team gives up their time, sleep and sanity to bring Australia's largest social gaming event to life, with most putting in 3 full days of work onsite and many hours on preparation on each quarterly event.
We also have to thank our sponsors, without whom we wouldn't be able to run such a varied competition schedule.
Amnet Broadband: Yet again, Amnet ensured that we could run competitions that rely on an internet connection, including Steam-based and Battle.Net games, which make up over half of our tournaments. The high-speed connection also helped out gamers stuck for drivers and updates, and keep connected on Facebook, Twitter and IRC during the event. We also streamed Starcraft 2 games live to the world using Twitch.TV. Thanks Amnet!
Anyware, Thermaltake: These brands have consistently sponsored great prizes at our events for over 10 years.
Austin Computers: The guys from Austin Bibra Lake again ran an excellent stall at the event where gamers could purchase new headsets, mice and more. Austin Computers also supplied a range of prizes across many competitions.
Modariffic: Although they couldn't make it down to the event this time, Modariffic donated some great plushies and accessories for prizes during the event.
Web in a box: These guys supply the hosting for our sites and other support during the event, including Cisco IP phones for the team.
ExpoAV: Alan and Ryan supply our events with numerous LCD displays to keep the console area stocked and signage during the event. 60" LCD's were featured on the stage during the Starcraft II final matches.
Perth Barcraft: Perth Barcraft together with Horize gaming laptops casted our Starcraft II games live throughout the event on Twitch.TV

See you in July!
