RFLAN 37 - Report
That's All Folks (for 2011)!
2011 ended with our largest event ever, both in ticket sales and floorspace consumed. The 460 gamer tickets were sold out 2 weeks prior to the event, and our expanded floorplan now encompasses over 2300 m2.
That means a whole lot of 1mx2m carpet squares to lay out, and thanks to our helpers on Friday afternoon this was completed before sundown. Over 500 tables and chairs, 2000m of Cat6 network cables, and endless runs of power cables were run and tested through out the night.
An ultra-fast fiber internet connection from our friends at Amnet Broadband meant that everyone was kept happy with social media updates, game downloads and all of our internet-requiring competitions such as Starcraft 2, League of Legends and Heroes of Newerth ran smoothly! Thanks to GameServers.com , we even had a dedicated Battlefield 3 server running for scrims during the event.
Doors were opened at 8am, earlier then usual, as a trial to squeeze more gaming hours in before daybreak on Sunday, usually the time when most of our attendees retire. Even at 8am, the lines stretched out the door. After most were settled in, tournaments commenced and were run throughout the 32 hour event. Spuds and pizzas were served to the hungry hordes, fun events and console games were played to ensure they took regular breaks, and a huge boxload of novelty prizes were thrown into the crowd from our Main Stage. Coffee was on tap and energy drinks were in high demand as gamers ramped up their excitement. The GOMTV Blizzard Cup Finals were shown live on our Main Stage, thanks to Amnet Broadband and large ExpoAV screens.

In Closing
The extra floorspace used for this event meant that packup took from 2pm to 9pm Sunday, and that was with 10+ people non-stop. Add to that the enourmous setup and hours spent running the actual event, our staff deserve the most gratitude possible for giving up their time (and sanity) to run these events.
We also have to thank our sponsors, without whom we wouldn't be able to run such a varied competition schedule.
Amnet Broadband: Yet again, Amnet ensured that we could run competitions that rely on an internet connection, including Steam-based and Battle.Net games, which make up over half of our tournaments. The high-speed connection also helped out gamers stuck for drivers and updates, and keep connected on Facebook and Twitter during the 32-hour event. We also streamed the Starcraft 2 final rounds live to the world on Twitch.TV . Thanks Amnet!
Anyware, Thermaltake, Avermedia, Plantronics, Fractal, TP-Link, Altec Lansing: These brands have consistently sponsored great prizes at our events for over 10 years.
Austin Computers: The guys from Austin Bibra Lake ran a stall at the event where gamers could purchase new headsets, mice and more. Austin Computers also supplied a range of prizes across many competitions.
PLE Computers: A last-minute confirmation, PLE donated ten $50 vouchers to their stores, which were used as main prizes for two competitions.
Modariffic: A new sponsor this event, Modariffic donated great console development kits for prizes during the event.
Web in a box: These guys supply the hosting for our sites, coding support, and IP phones during the event.
ExpoAV: Alan and Ryan supply our events with numerous LCD displays to keep the console area stocked and signage during the event.
Local Area Gamers: A new LAN centre at Whitfords, LAG supplied two gaming PC's for the Main Stage battles and a stack of vouchers for gaming after the event.
Computer Resolutions: Two beefed-up PC's were supplied for use at the event, and were used to stream the GOM Blizzard Cup on the stage and projector.

You can leave feedback in our forums at http://forums.rflan.org , and view photos of the event at http://www.rflan.org/gallery and our Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/redflaglan
See you in February!
